History is not just a collection of dates and battles. It is the story of women too, their ambitions, their failures, their genius, and their cruelty. Restore Her Legacy was created to bring those stories back to life.
Each article on Restore Her Legacy is a deep dive into the life and achievements of a single historical woman. We draw on primary sources and narrative storytelling to create profiles that are both rigorously researched and genuinely readable.
What We Cover
Our archive spans all of human history, from the ancient civilisations of Egypt and Greece to the legendary women of the twentieth century. We profile leaders and warriors, scientists and inventors, artists and philosophers, and everyone in between.
We believe that understanding history, especially the women who made it but kept hidden or having their achievments attributed to others, is one of the most important forms of education available. Great historical women are mirrors: they show us what someone is capable of, for better and for worse, in spite of historical circumstances, lack of rights, and societal expectations. Resurfacing their stories is a way to restore their legacy, and to inspire new generations to learn from them.
Restore Her Legacy Mission
Our mission is to restore women's legacy in science, innovation, art, activism throughout time by creating in-depth profiles that bring their achievements to surface. We aim to educate, inspire, and challenge our readers to see history through a more clear lens. By shining a light on the achievements and complexities of these women, we hope to foster a deeper understanding of the past and its impact on the present and future.
For far too long, many women's stories have been overlooked or forgotten, their achievments credited to others, scientific communities excluded and ognored them, history put their names in footnotes. Restore Her Legacy is dedicated to changing that by providing a platform where these stories can be celebrated and remembered.
Though many of these women's achievemts are recognised today in their respective fields, their stories are often not widely known or taught. By bringing these stories to the forefront, we hope to inspire people to learn from them and to continue the work of restoring women's legacy in history, science, art, and beyond.
So next time you read about a famous historical figure, ask yourself:Who else was part of this story? Who else made this achievement possible? Whose name is missing?
And next time someone asks you what did women invent or what did women achieve in history, tell them about these women. Tell them about Henrietta Swan Leavitt, the astronomer who mapped the stars but was erased from history, Ada Lovelace, the mathematician whose work made modern computing possible but was overshadowed by her male colleagues, Fu Hao, the warrior queen who led armies into battle but was written out of the history books. Tell them about the countless women whose names we may never know, but whose contributions shaped our world nonetheless.
We also believe that history is not just about the past. It is a living conversation that continues to shape our present and future. By learning about these remarkable women and their achievements, we can gain insights into the challenges and opportunities we face today, and find inspiration for the future we want to create.
